Maggie 'Lola' Long

Maggie Lola Long passed away peacefully September 27, 2011 at the Willard Care Center in Willard, Missouri. She was 99 years, 9 months and 6 days of age.
She was born in Norwood, Missouri to Marion Housley and Azalea (Owens) Long on December 21, 1911.
She grew up and attended school in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School in 1929.
Lola was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for sixty-three years. She received her 50 year pin in 1998 and served as an officer every year except one.
She was employed early in life at the Wright County Library in Mtn. Grove from 1950 to 1956. She later worked in Wright County Circuit Court and Recorders Office in Hartville, Missouri from 1957 to 1967. Lola retired from Security Bank in Mtn. Grove, where she worked from 1967 to 1982.

Lola was an avid gardener. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, doing all kinds of needlework, especially tatting, and was well known for her baking ability and her homemade desserts.
She accepted Christ at an early age while attending the Church of the Brethren and enjoyed attending church as long as her health permitted.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Marion and Azalea Long; one sister: Avena Williams and her husband, George; two brothers: Lowell E. Long and his wife, Jane, and Hewell Long and his wife, Nellie; a nephew: Billy Williams; and by one great-nephew: Tony Dake.
Lola is survived by five nieces: Joann Calhoun and her husband, Paul, of Willard, Missouri, Betty Aarestad and husband, Paul, of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Judy Brown of Niles, Michigan, Susie Mills of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Debbie Colton and her husband, David, of Phoenix, Arizona; three nephews: Carl Williams and his wife, Sue, of Rogersville, Missouri, Jack Williams and his wife, Teresa, of Mtn. Grove, Missouri Harold Long and his wife, Laura, of Bakersfield, California; over fifty great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great-nieces and nephews; special friends: Alvera and Joe Slater; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.


Funeral Service: Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.


Visitation: Friday, September 30, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the funeral home.

Burial: Thomas Cemetery
Memorial Contributions: Wright County Children's Home or Thomas Cemetery Fund c/o the funeral home.
