Marilyn Sue Smith

Marilyn Sue (Boone) Smith, daughter of the late Jim Boone and Dorothy Gore, was born May 19, 1946, in Malden, Missouri, and departed this life March 14, 2020, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 73 years, 9 months, and 26 days of age.

Marilyn met the love of her life, Rodney Smith, in 1964. Rodney and Marilyn were united in marriage February 20, 1965, in St. Louis, Missouri. Two sons were born to this union, Rodney and Russell. With this marriage, she gained several sisters and brothers whom she loved dearly.

Marilyn worked at Mountain Grove High School as a custodian where she could keep a watchful eye on her boys. She also worked as a waitress. Marilyn always enjoyed meeting new people.

Marilyn loved spending time with her family and friends. When she wasn’t spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids, she loved going to yard sales to look for bargains. Marilyn enjoyed making crafts and reading a good book. She also enjoyed being outdoors and planning the next camping trip.

Besides her parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney.

She is survived by her two sons, Rodney Smith and his wife, Linda, and Russell Smith, all of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Four grandchildren, Rodney Z. Smith, Russell D. Smith, Jr., Zane Tylor Smith, and Whitney N. Aldridge, eight great-grandchildren, Sumor, Samuel, Zion, Skyler, Kaya, Kaleb, Araya, and Zander, one sister, Carol Caurthers of Festus, Missouri, one brother, Russell Stevenson of Mountain Grove, a niece that was like a daughter she never had, Cindy Herrell, and a host of other family and friends who will greatly miss her.

Following the guidelines of our Wright County health officials, we will be implementing a 50 person limit in our chapel during the funeral. Our staff will be monitoring the crowds to maintain this limit. Please be patient with us as we navigate these new guidelines. Our chapel will be open at 9:00 AM for guests that may want to come by early to sign the register and pick up a memorial folder.
