Maydell (Cottengim) Dake

May 1, 1932 — July 28, 2013

Lona “Maydell” Dake, daughter of the late Denver Watson and Alcie Pearl (Ridens) Cottengim, was born on May 1, 1932 in Norwood, Missouri, and departed this life on July 28, 2013 in the Rocky Ridge Manor in Mansfield, Missouri, at 81 years of age.
Maydell grew up and attended Moore Elementary School and graduated from Norwood High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Bernell Dake on June 24, 1950 in Mtn. Home, Arkansas. Two children were born to this union. They raised their family on a farm near Norwood, where they lived for many years. Mr. Dake passed away in 1996.
Maydell enjoyed farm life and loved milking cows. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family.
She was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Maydell was a good Christian example to her family and friends. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Maydell was a longtime member of the Mt. Zion No. 1 Freewill Baptist Church near Norwood. She held the position of song leader, Sunday School teacher, and was very faithful in her attendance. She was also a clerk for the Wright County Quarterly Meeting and Union Association for many years. She also loved singing and wrote a song “Tear Stains On The Altar.”
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Victor, Junior, Jack and Billy Gene Cottengim; a sister-in-law: Wynona Cottengim; and by a brother-in-law: O.B. Williams.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: David and Debbie Dake; her daughter and son-in-law: Bernetta and John Williams, Sr., all of Norwood, Missouri; two brothers and their wives: Bob and Linda Cottengim and Wilkie and DonnaSue Cottengim, all of Norwood; two sisters: Mary Williams of Exeter, Missouri, and Sue Iorg and her husband, Allen, of Bruner, Missouri; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Cottengim of Mansfield, Missouri, and Harriett Cottengim of Hartville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
