Nellie Geneva 'Peg' Hancock

January 13, 1925 — August 30, 2010

It was a glorious day in Buckhart, Missouri on January 13, 1925, for on that day a precious gift from God, a baby girl, entered the home of Fred T. and Mary Jane (Wheat) Pamperien. She was given the name Nellie Geneva Pamperien, after her Grandma Pamperien. She returned to God’s loving arms on August 30, 2010 at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 17 days of age.
Geneva grew up in the Buckhart Community. She was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Pleasant Home Church until its closing. In recent years, as her health permitted, she attended First Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove and later listened faithfully to their radio broadcasts. She attended Buckhart Elementary School and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Jason Troy Hancock on November 12, 1945 in Evans, Missouri. One daughter, Brenda Kay, was born to this union.
Geneva was well known for her wit and sharp sense of humor. She loved the outdoors, fishing, deer hunting, (even though she was never known to have fired a gun at one), and the wild scrambles to claim the biggest mushroom during spring mushroom season.
Geneva was a retired teacher, having taught A.B.E. and G.E.D. classes from 1974 to 1994 in Ava and Mtn. Grove. She was also very active with the sheltered workshop, serving on the Support the Handicap Board of Douglas County for sixteen years and was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Mtn. Grove.
She was very well known in Douglas County for assisting her husband, Troy, who was the Douglas County Sheriff in the 1970’s.
Geneva dearly loved her family, including her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, especially Kay’s friends. No one would have ever guessed that Kay was her only daughter, as she loved all her “girls” and enjoyed their visits very much.
These last few weeks of her life in Autumn Oaks Caring Center were plagued with tears as she knew her passing was nearing. She continued to profess daily how much she loved her family and friends and enjoyed their visits, sometimes begging them to stay just a little bit longer.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Troy in 1994; her parents; and by one brother Charles, who gave his life for his country in Germany during WWII.
She is survived by her daughter: Brenda Kay Rogers; one brother: Bobby Joe Pamperien; one granddaughter: Vallie Hoerning and her husband, Elton; one grandson: Matthew Rogers and his wife, Erica, all of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; two great-grandchildren: Reagan and Cooper Hoerning; three step-great-grandchildren: Augie, Jacob and Braydon; several nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends who loved her and will miss her very much.
