Phillip H. Daugard

May 2, 1927 — October 23, 2015

Phillip Harold Daugard, son of the late John Adam Sr. and Barbara Ann (Jonikus) Daugard, was born on May 2, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, and departed this life on October 23, 2015, at Autumn Oaks Caring Center, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 88 years, 5 months, and 21 days of age.
Phil attended school in Downers Grove, Illinois and moved to Norwood, Missouri, as a teenager in the early 1940s. He then enlisted in the Army and took great pride in having served his country and in being a veteran. Phil was an active member of the American Legion Post 30, having served for 70 years. He acted as color guard for funerals and served as Historian.
Phil held various jobs, enjoying many summers on the road as a truck driver for a local carnival. He was in charge of the safety and maintenance of the rides. Phil attended Mountain Grove Vocational School and was certified in Electronic Repair and High Technology. He was cited for outstanding performance and perfect attendance during the 2 year course. He also took a Master course in Audio/Visual in 1990, through NRI Schools. Phil owned and operated a local electronics repair shop and Phils Hobby Shop, which pertained to model railroading.
Phil was devoted to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for most of his life, and was one of two original church members remaining. He helped build and aided in blasting the rock for the present churchs exterior, which was built in 1952-1953. Phil relished the memory of placing the cross atop the church roof. Phil held several positions at the church. He was a member of the choir, song leader most of his adult life, and was a member of Knights of Columbus.
Phil enjoyed traveling to Branson with his friend Olive. He shared a good sense of humor, lived for Cardinals games, worked on numerous picture puzzles, and loved playing Bingo at the Senior Center. He enjoyed reading his Bible, Catholic papers, and anything related to history, nutrition/health, trains, and political material. Phil also liked to listen to PBS programs and music of any kind.
Phil lived out his recent year at Country Living Assisted Living and died in Autumn Oaks Caring Center. He will be missed by family, a host of friends, and church family who will remember his smile and humorous comments.
Besides his parents, Phil was preceded in death by one brother: John A. Daugard; one sister: Barbara Sylvia (Daugard) Loess; and special friend: Olive Adamson.
