Phillip Sherman

November 26, 1933 — January 8, 2023

Phillip Henry Sherman, son of the late Adam Earnest and Dorothy (Davis) Sherman, was born November 26, 1933, in Sunburst, Montana, and departed this life January 8, 2023, at home surrounded by family in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of eighty-nine years, one month, and thirteen days.

On July 25, 1956, he was united in marriage to Jean Ann Kelley, and to this union, six children were born.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean Ann, and an infant son, Phillip Randal Sherman, two great-grandchildren, Jordon and Blake Sherman, one sister, Bessie LeBrie, and one brother, James Sherman.


Phillip is survived by one daughter, Debra Long and her husband, Mike, of Hartville, Missouri, four sons, Mike Sherman and his wife, Tami, of Mansfield, Missouri, Rob Sherman and his wife, Nancy, of Hartville, Missouri, Terry Sherman and his significant other, Wanda, of Hartville, Missouri, and Tim Sherman of Hartville, Missouri, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, one sister, Annie Short of Great Falls, Montana, one brother, William Sherman of Lolo, Montana, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.


He was born and raised in the Sweet Grass hills of Sunburst, Montana. Phillip worked his way through high school earning room and board. He graduated from Sunburst High School on May 23, 1952. He attended Havre College and then he joined the United States Army and, in 1956, was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged from the Army as a Specialist Four on December 31, 1962. While in the military, he met and married Jean Ann Kelley. After leaving the military, he worked road construction for a while and then he worked at the Mansfield Rock Quarry for eleven years. Jean Ann and Phillip had a farm for many years. In 1977, he opened a DX station in Hartville, Missouri. Phillip professed his belief in Jesus Christ and was baptized on March 25, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Sunburst, Montana. He enjoyed reading, working, and vacationing with family.
