Raymond 'Ray' C. Seymour

Raymond “Ray” Carl Seymour, son of the late Carl and Mary (Crockett) Seymour, was born on April 23, 1935 in Fairfax, Missouri, and departed this life on June 20, 2011, at his residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, surrounded by family. He was 76 years, 1 month, and 27 days of age.
Ray grew up in Fairfax, Missouri in Atchison County and graduated from Fairfax High School. He served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty-six years and retired on December 1, 1973. During his time of service, Ray worked for the Pentagon as a Broadcasting Systems Manager and repaired equipment when needed. His retirement ceremony was also held at the Pentagon in his honor.
He was united in marriage to Marion Seymour on February 14, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two children were born to this union. He moved his family to the Mtn. Grove area in 1973, where he fulfilled his dream of farming. He also worked many years on oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana.
Ray purchased the Westside Auto Parts store in 1993, where he made many friends and enjoyed visiting with those around him. He and Marion moved from their farm to Mtn. Grove to make their home on Wilma Street in that same year. Marion passed away on January 12, 1995.
He married Thelma Beavers on November 19, 2010 in Licking, Missouri. They had ten wonderful years of companionship together. They enjoyed riding their Harley Davidson motorcycles and traveling.
Ray was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 30 in Mtn. Grove.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Melvin Seymour and Glen Seymour.
He is survived by his loving wife: Thelma Seymour of their home; one son: Jerry Seymour and his wife, Melissa, of Lincoln, Nebraska; one daughter: Crystal Seymour of Mtn. Grove; two step-sons: Clyde Beavers of Mtn. Grove and Carr Beavers and his wife, Cheryl, of Fordland, Missouri; two step-daughters: Cindy Ortega and her husband, Stanley, of Cabool, Missouri, and Ida Williams and her husband, David, of Mtn. Grove; one brother: Ed Seymour and his wife, Cathy, of Mtn. Grove; one grandson: Carter Ray Seymour; three step-grandchildren: Paige Schmedeke, Paden McKee, and Christian Ortega; three step-great-grandchildren: Brody, Brady, and Brylee Schmedeke; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
