Sam Wilson

December 17, 1938 — October 6, 2021

Samuel Lee Wilson, son of William Henry and Dora Jean (Hartley) Wilson, was born December 17, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas, and peacefully departed this life October 6, 2021, at his home in Seymour, Missouri. Sam was 82 years wise.

Sam was raised in the Kansas City area where he eventually met his sweetheart, Joyce. He wed Joyce Marie Haney on July 17, 1960, at the Star Church east of Seymour.

He worked many years running a backhoe on many home and business projects. He worked as maintenance at the Ozark Correctional Center in Fordland, Missouri, where he retired in 2000.

He was very proud to be a veteran of the United States Army and loved to be involved with the local American Legion. He had many great friendships there. He was proud to help put out flags at the cemetery for Veterans Day and proudly displayed one at his home as often as possible.

He loved working on old cars and drove them in many Seymour Apple Festival parades.

He made his profession of faith and was a member of Cedar Gap Baptist Church.

As Sam would admit, he was sometimes stubborn, but cared for his friends and family very much.

After retirement, Sam and Joyce loved to travel in their RV and spent 10 years living in the RV full time. They loved the gulf coast and had great friends they love to visit there. After hurricane Katrina, Sam spent a few months volunteering working on electrical systems in damaged homes and helped to run heavy equipment in the cleanup.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by Joyce, his wife of 56 years, and two sisters, Judy and Sue. He is survived by his brother, Bill Wilson and his wife, Glenda, of Independence, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews.
