Shara 'Sally' Ann (Duckworth) Petro

December 7, 1944 — February 5, 2013

Shara Ann “Sally” Petro, daughter of James “Jim” Luther and Valena (Erickson) Duckworth, was born on December 7, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and passed away on February 5, 2013 in the Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, following a long illness, at 68 years of age.

Sally grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she attended school and graduated from Lawrence High School. She was united in marriage to Harold William “Pete” Petro on May 14, 1977 in Indiana. When she and Pete were married, they joined families and raised six sons. They were married for over thirty-five years.

They made their home east of Mtn. Grove on Business 60 for twenty-seven years.

Sally enjoyed being outdoors. She loved riding and taking care of her horses, which was a huge part of her life. Later in life, she realized her need for Jesus, and put him first in her life. Her family came second and her friends and horse came third. When she could no longer ride horse and barrel race, she and her family began playing instruments and singing in churches, senior citizen centers and nursing homes.

Sally considered that her life was good. She wanted to be remembered as the “happy camper” that she was. Everything that she wanted to do, she did. She rode and owned horses, she drove a big truck, which was how she met her husband, and she also wanted to sing and play music, which she did. She stated that she had no complaints in life, except that she regretted waiting so long to come to Jesus.

Sally was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mtn. Grove, where she enjoyed attending services and visiting with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her father: Jim Duckworth; and by a grandson: Chris Petro.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend: Pete Petro of their home; her two sons: Ronald Dodd, Jr., and James Dodd; her mother: Valena “Bea” Christy of Ava, Missouri; her four step-sons: one brother: Steve Duckworth; two sisters: Connie Duckworth and Randi Schmucker; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her best-friend for over forty years: Carolyn Oberly; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.
