Stella 'Aletha' (Mcguire) Barnes

May 3, 1923 — March 17, 2011

Stella Aletha Barnes, “Blue Eyes Blossom,” daughter of the late Horace Burton and Dorthy (Karpie) McGuire was born on May 3, 1923 in Embree, Missouri and passed away on March 17, 2011 in the Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mtn. Grove, Missouri at 87 years of age.
Aletha grew up in the Embree Community and attended the Pigtail School. While attending school she met Clint William Barnes and married him when she was thirteen years old on May 16, 1936. They raised their family in the Lynchburg area and later moved to Mtn. Grove. Four children were born to this union. Mr. Barnes passed away January 23, 1991.
Aletha worked at Fort Leonard Wood from 1949 to 1958 and due to health problems she had to retire.
She was saved at an early age and rededicated her life along with Clint in 1987. She had a great love of music, and enjoyed quilting, playing bingo with her friends and visiting with those around her.
Aletha or “Granny Barnes” as she was known to most everyone was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son: Calvin Barnes; a daughter: Doris Jarrett Lee; and by four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by one son: Junior Lee Barnes of Macomb, Missouri; one daughter: Reeta Benkert of Vanzant, Missouri; a daughter-in-law: Barbara Barnes of Mtn. Grove; seven grandchildren: Bret Barnes, Clint Barnes, Terrell Barnes, Debra Barnes, Sherry Fisk, Tonya Aletha Stout, and Tony Heckman; twelve great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service:
Monday, March 21, 2:00 PM in the Craig-Hurtt Chapel.

Visitation:
Sunday, March 20th, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
