Steve W. Freeman

July 16, 1948 — November 28, 2021

Steve W. Freeman went home to Jesus on November 28, 2021, at approximately 6:30 AM. It is somehow appropriate, given Steve’s faith, that he passed as first light dawned on a crisp fall Sunday morning.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Patsy Elizabeth Freeman (nee Ipock) of the home, his brother, Kevin L. Freeman and wife, Della, of Highlandville, three brothers-in-law, Fred and Nancy Ipock of Springfield, Dennis and Geraldine Ipock and Ellis and Beth Ipock, the latter of Seymour. In addition, there are numerous nephews, nieces and cousins on both sides of the family. Steve was preceded in death by both of his parents, Orlie and Emmaline Freeman, as well as Patsy’s parents, Kenneth and Anna Ipock.

Steve was baptized as a child and a member of the DeSoto, Kansas, First Baptist Church. After graduation from high school, Steve attended Kansas State University and obtained a bachelors in political science. He was then drafted and served in the United States Army until the death of his father, at which time he received an honorable hardship discharge to help with the family farm.

A lifelong dream of Steve’s was to become a preacher. To that end he attended both Central Baptist Seminary and Midwestern Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. While Steve was never able to preach full time, he was a devout Christian and a life-long witness for Christ. Steve enjoyed volunteer work and talking to people, especially about Jesus. He volunteered and worked at Burrell for many years. He also volunteered in nursing homes to visit with the residents and play games like bingo.

Patsy and Steve were married in 1988 after a five-year courtship, having met at a church activity in 1983. They enjoyed life together until Steve’s passing with Patsy at his side.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Steve’s memory to either the First Baptist Church of DeSoto, Kansas, or to the New Start Rescue Mission, Quincy, Il..
