Twylia Jean (Postlewait) Akins

Twylia Jean Akins, daughter of Virginia (McCoy) Postlewait and the late Rev. Carl Postlewait, was born on May 11, 1961 in Houston, Missouri, and passed away on August 21, 2012 near her home in Marshfield, Missouri, following a tragic accident. She was 51 years, 3 months, and 10 days of age.
Twylia grew up around Mtn. Grove, Missouri, and graduated from Mtn. Grove High School in 1979. While she was in high school, she enjoyed playing the clarinet and piano. She also loved to sing. She later attended Southwest Missouri State University. She graduated in1993 with a degree in child development.
Twylia worked in child care and medical offices in various hospitals and medical facilities. Most recently, she was employed by the Hulston Cancer Center in Springfield, Missouri.
Twylia’s son, Michael, was born on August 3, 1993. This past May, she was very proud to watch him graduate high school. She was known as a loving and caring mother who would sacrifice whatever was needed for her son. She was also a caring and kind daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She loved serving those around her. She was very active in her church, Four Rivers, in Marshfield. Her greatest desire was serving the Lord.
In her spare time, she liked to watch the St. Louis Cardinal’s on t.v. She also liked collecting Lucy Dolls and "I Love Lucy" television episodes. She looked forward to spending time with her cherished cat companions: Baby and Bell.
Twylia is survived by her son, Michael Akins, Jr., of Marshfield, Missouri; her son’s father: Michael Akins, Sr., of Republic, Missouri. A step-daughter: Amanda Feathers and her husband, Matt, of San Antonio, Texas; her mother: Virginia Postlewait of Mtn. Grove, Missouri; one brother: David Postlewait and his wife, Norma, of Mtn. Grove; one sister: Brenda Peterson and her husband, Larry, of Springfield, Missouri; her niece: Jade (Postlewait) Manczuk and her husband, Brandan, and their son, Kai; and other relatives and friends.
