Virginia Postlewait

March 6, 1932 — October 8, 2017

Virginia Lea Postlewait, daughter of the late Arthur and Lulu Matilda (Jackson) McCoy, was born March 6, 1932 in Wright County, Missouri, and departed this life October 8, 2017 at Autumn Oaks Caring Center, Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 85 years, 7 months, and 2 days of age.

Virginia was raised on a farm in the Embree community and attended Rose school. She was united in marriage to Rev. Carl Eugene Postlewait on April 10, 1959 at the New Home Free Will Baptist Church. Together, they moved to Mountain Grove and started a family. Three children were born to this union. Besides being a minister, Carl was a mail carrier and Virginia served as a dedicated minister’s wife and as his substitute mail carrier. She eventually took over a rural route and served the United States Postal Service for over 40 years before retiring at the age of 72.

Virginia then “took care of the elderly” by serving any way she could. She stayed with those who needed a little extra care. She was a kind and compassionate soul who never knew a stranger.
Virginia was saved at a young age in December of 1945. She remained faithful to serving the Lord. She was a prayer warrior and she enjoyed sharing the love of her Savior by singing the old time hymns. She was a member of the Willow Springs Free Will Baptist Church of Mountain Grove, where she remained faithful as long as health permitted.

Virginia was also dedicated to her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed making big vegetable and flower gardens each year. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Carl Postlewait, one daughter, Twylia Akins, and one brother, Carl McCoy.

Survivors include one son, David Postlewait and wife, Norma, of Dawson, Missouri, one daughter, Brenda Peterson and husband, Larry, of Springfield, Missouri, two grandchildren, Michael Akins, Jr. and Jade Manczuk and husband, Brandan, two great-grandchildren, Rubi Manczuk and Kasimir Manczuk, and a host of other relatives and friends.

“God has been so good to me.”
