Wayne B. Casey

December 24, 1925 — October 12, 2016

Wayne Benny Casey, son of the late Joseph Earon and Sally Mintie (Stewart) Casey, was born on December 24, 1925 in Longmont, Colorado, and departed this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 in Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 90 years, 9 months, and 18 days of age.

Wayne graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Navy, serving as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater during World War II. While serving overseas, Wayne was given an aptitude test. He scored very high and was sent back to the States to attend college. The war ended before he received his degree so he continued his education attending colleges in Bakersfield, California, Natchitoches, Louisiana, and Missouri University in Columbia, Missouri. He received his Bachelors Degree from Rolla School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri.

After he finished college, he married the love of his life, Wilma Todd, in Mammoth Springs, Arkansas. Three children were born to this union. They made their home in the little town of Dawson, Missouri, where they raised their children. With the exception of living in Hartville, Missouri, for a short time, the couple spent their enitire lives living in Dawson.

Wayne began his career in education teaching industrial arts in several local schools including: Alton, Mountain Grove, Cabool, Houston, Hartville, and Mountain View, which is where he retired. Wayne would often fly his plane to school in Mountain View. The school was close enough to the airport that he could walk to work, but usually his students would see him land and drive over to get him. Wayne was also a business man in Mountain Grove and owned his own woodworking shop.

Wayne enjoyed life and participated in many interesting things; including flying airplanes and going to Costa Rica to set up a casket company. Wayne was most known for his good heart and how much he cared for others. He loved his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren very much. We will all remember and miss his great big smile.

Wayne made a profession of faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of Mountain Grove Church of Christ for many years.

Besides his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, on April 8, 2002; one brother, Loy Carr; one sister, Mary Ruthelaine Casey; and one grandson, Brandon William Besson.

He is survived by his son, Mike Casey; his two daughters, Martha Moody and her husband, Lonnie, and Mary Besson all of Mountain Grove, Missouri; five grandchildren, Justin and Jodi Sutherland, Bryant and Adam Besson, and Dillon Moody; eleven great-grandchildren, Trystan and Macenzie Short, Jaden, Gracie, Tyler, Kaleb, Brooklyn, A.J., Kinslee Besson, and Colton and Blake Moody; one brother, Glen Casey of Mountain Grove, Missouri; three sisters, Velma Wolfe of Ozark, Missouri, Rebecca Webb, and Dorothy Dowden and her husband, Noel, of Mountain Grove, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and many friends.


Visitation: Friday, October 14, 2016 from 5:00 - 7:30 PM in the Chapel.

Funeral Service: Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel.

Burial: Friendship Cemetery, Dawson, MO, following the service.

Memorial Contributions: May be made to the family in memory of Wayne Casey c/o the funeral home.
