Weldon Marchel Laws

January 5, 1922 — September 12, 2016

Weldon Marchel Laws, son of the late Arvin and Mammie (Gaulding) Laws, was born January 5, 1922 in Bado, Missouri and passed away September 12, 2016 in Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was 94 years, 8 months, and 7 days of age.



Weldon was raised by his father and step-mother, Elva, in Bado, Missouri and attended Cabool Schools. He later attended and graduated from Wichita State in Wichita, Kansas with a bachelors degree in accounting.



Weldon was united in marriage to Inez Lavada Estep on March 8, 1942 in Houston, Missouri. They adopted two children, Randy and Nancy, to make their family complete. He was very devoted to his family and loved spending time with them.



Weldon was a retired major with the United States Air Force. He was also a small aircraft pilot. Weldon was a charter member of Mountain Grove First Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He loved serving others and being involved in his community. Weldon was a Master of the Royal Secret of the 32nd Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite with the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge #303. Also, he and Inez helped start the Mountain Grove Crisis Center.



Weldon loved to watch the news, financial programs and all sports, but especially loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a die-hard Cardinals fan and would get mad when they lost a game.



Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Inez; two brothers: Merele and Ukle Glenn Laws; and by one step-sister: Velma Hann.



He is survived by one son: Randy Laws of Merriam Woods, Missouri; one daughter: Nancy Scott and her husband, Milo, of Cabool, Missouri; four grandchildren: Brooke Elizabeth Laws, Katharine Lynne Laws, Donnie Ficken, and Mike Ficken; two great-grandchildren: Derek Ficken and Dylan Ficken; and many other family and friends who will miss him very much.


Visitation: Friday, September 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Mountain Grove.

Funeral Service: Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Mountain Grove.

Burial: Bado Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions: American Heart Association or First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
