William Washburn

February 21, 1936 — February 8, 2016

William Wallace Washburn, son of the late John and Cady (Wallace) Washburn, was born on February 21, 1936, in Embree, Missouri, and went to his Heavenly home on February 8, 2016 at his residence near Lynchburg, Missouri. He was 79 years, 11 months, and 18 days of age.
William grew up in the Embree community and attended school at Plato. He was united in marriage to Clarssia Leighty on March 3, 1956. William honorably served his country in the United States Army from October 24, 1957 to October 23, 1959.
William and Clarssia made their home near Lynchburg in the Embree Community. William worked for the civil service in Fort Leonard Wood for many years and retired. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially when hunting deer and turkey and going to Colorado to hunt elk. He also enjoyed working on his farm. William could fix anything from the smallest to the largest projects. Williams greatest passion in life was being a grandfather. He loved his grandchildren deeply and loved to spend time with them and tell others about how great they were.
William was active in his community and served two terms on the Plato school board. He was a long time member of the Plato chapter of the Masonic Lodge. William was saved and baptized and served as a trustee for the Embree Community Church for many years. He faithfully attended as long as health permitted.
William was preceded in death by one infant son; an infant brother; and one sister: Julia Sullivant.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years: Clarssia Washburn; one daughter: Gail Barton and husband, Ron, of Lynchburg, Missouri; three grandchildren: Surina, Shayne, and Shalyn of Lynchburg, Missouri; two sisters: Betty Heller of St. Charles, Missouri and Laura Hall of Plato, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
