Wilma Dowsey

November 29, 1930 — February 9, 2009

Wilma Dowsey, daughter of the late John and Mary (Klobnak) Sickle, was born on November 29, 1930 in Melrose, Iowa, and departed this life on Monday, February 9, 2009 at her residence in Mtn. Grove, Missouri, following a sudden illness. She was 78 years, 2 months and 10 days of age.
Wilma grew up in Melrose, Iowa and graduated in 1947. She later moved to Newton, Iowa where she was united in marriage to Charles Dowsey on December 24, 1955. They were married for thirty-seven years prior to his death on June 9, 1993.
Before moving to Missouri, Wilma was a member, confirmed, and baptized in the Lutheran Mo-Synod Church in Melrose, Iowa.
Wilma and Charles moved to Mtn. Grove in 1982 upon their retirement from the Maytag Company, where they both worked for over thirty years. Wilma enjoyed the farm where she and Charles lived until his death. She enjoyed traveling to their lake home in Gamaliel, Arkansas where they spent much of their time in the warm months of the year. She especially liked crocheting, making everything from pot holders to baby blankets for family and friends.
She spent most of her time at the kitchen table putting together puzzles or working crossword puzzles. For the past ten and half years, Wilma could be seen every Saturday morning with her niece, Linda, having breakfast or making their weekly Wal-Mart and Richard Brothers shopping trip.
Wilma was very giving to many charitable organizations. She was especially fond of her fourteen nephews and nieces and cherished any opportunity to see them or visit with them by telephone or mail.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Edward Sickle and John Sickle; two sisters: Ann Utter and Agnes Grove; and by an infant sister: Margaret Sickle.
She is survived by one brother and his wife: George and Betty Sickle of Newton, Iowa; one sister: Mary Main of Ottumwa, Iowa; fourteen nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Wilma will be truly missed by those who knew and loved her.
