Alice Ann Hartley

May 6, 1939 — June 3, 2025

Springfield

Alice Ann Hartley, known by her family and closest friends lovingly as "Honey", passed away peacefully in her home on June 3, 2025.

Alice was born on May 6, 1939, in Mansfield, Missouri, to her parents Lloyd and Bonnie Drake. She lived most of her life there, growing up alongside her older siblings Blanche, Ruby June, and Dewane, and spending her time playing with her beloved dog, Inky, and hanging out with her girlfriends.

In 1956, she married Carl Hartley and the couple had two daughters, Lee Ann and Gina. Eventually, Alice and Carl relocated to Springfield to be close to family.

Alice came alive in her later years, as many of the people close to her can attest. She loved fashion, animals, hosting “cousin campouts” at her house, and always stood up for what she felt was right. She was an open-minded, caring, funny, and loving person. Those who knew her well will always remember her fantastic sense of humor, her ability to out-dress anyone in the room, and that she made a mean sweet tea and tuna sandwich.

During her long and full life she enjoyed walking with her grandchildren—Alexandra, Christopher, and Kathryn—around her farm property, taking photographs, caring for many cats and dogs over the years, going on outings with her lifelong friends, and spending time with her family—especially her daughters—who were her closest companions. In the last months of her life, she spoke to her brother on the phone every night, reminiscing about their younger years.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters, her son-in-law, Danny, and many wonderful pets and friends.

She is survived by her brother, her daughters, her son-in-law, James, her grandsons-in-law, Joshua and Bryan, her granddaughter-in-law, Kathleen, her great-grandchildren, Loraine and Arlo, and many nieces, nephews, and other greats.

She will be missed an incredible amount. For those of us who have to carry on without her, not a day will go by when we won’t feel her presence and wish she was still with us.
