Calvin Herbert Shannon, son of the late Jim and Cora (Weaver) Shannon, was born January 4, 1931, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and passed away March 11, 2024, in Springfield, Missouri. He was 93 years, 2 months, and 7 days of age.
Calvin was united in marriage to Phyllis Mae McGowan on July 3, 1954, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. Three children were born to this union: Vicky, Richard, and Bob.
Calvin was a veteran and served in the Army until 1953. During this time, he was a weapons infantryman and fought in the Korean War.
Calvin worked for many years as a carpenter and then drove a semi-truck later in life. He and Phyllis enjoyed seeing many sights on the trips Calvin would run hauling loads across the states. After retirement, he and Phyllis enjoyed shopping for and collecting antiques. Calvin enjoyed woodworking, gardening and caring for dogs and cats. Calvin was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He loved spending time with his friends and family.
Besides his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Shannon; daughter, Vicky Myers; three sisters, Ivon Ault, Jean Hofarth and Sharon Prock; sister-in-law, Geraldine Shannon; and two daughters-in-law, Wanda Shannon and Mary Shannon.
Calvin is survived by two sons, Richard Shannon and wife, DeAnn, and Bob Shannon; grandchildren, Shane Rabourn and wife, Lori, Matt Shannon and wife, Amy, Desiree Hayes, and Nathan Jessee and wife, Ronna; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Jacob, and Jackson Rabourn, Kalvin Shannon, Kendall and Kirby Jessee, MaKayla and Braden Morris, Kayli Clevenger, and Liza Hayes; brothers, Larry Shannon, Howard Shannon, Wallace Shannon, and Herb Shannon, and sisters, Pauline Knotts, Charlene Sumner, Rita Barker, and Lola Scobee; as well as many other relatives and friends who will miss him greatly.
