Carl Dowden

June 12, 1927 — August 5, 2023

Carl Eugene Dowden, son of the late Alfred “Al” and Amanda (Crisp) Dowden was born June 12, 1927, near Manes, Missouri, and passed away in the same house where he was born, on August 5, 2023, at 96 years, 1 month, and 25 days of age.

In 1949, Carl married Alice Jewel Allen. Four children were born to this union, Connie, Carla, Gene, and Barbara. In his younger day, he liked to coon hunt and go gigging in Beaver Creek. Carl was a dairy farmer until 1990, when he decided to switch to all stock cows.

Carl greatly enjoyed his kids and grandkids. He liked to load them up and take them to check the cows with him. He also taught them to swim and to fish.

Carl was a member and deacon at Lynchburg Baptist Church for over 40 years. He then helped reopen the Evening Shade Community Church. After a few years there, he attended Green Mountain Baptist Church, the same church where he had been saved when he was young.

Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Jewel, a great-grandson, Jonathan Privette, his brothers, Coy, Ray, Ralph, and Roy Dowden, and his sisters, Velma Chambers, Myrtle Weber, Dorothy Hunt, and Della Newton.

He is survived by his son, Gene Dowden and his wife, Delesa, of Manes, Missouri, three daughters, Connie Buttram of Manes, Missouri, Carla Long and her husband, Steve, of Hartville, Missouri, and Barbara Francis and her husband, Charles, of Lebanon, Missouri, ten grandchildren, Landon Buttram and his wife, Cheyenne, of Manes, Missouri, Heather Manning and Jennifer  Cinkosky and her husband, Jeramie, of Lebanon, Missouri, Daniel Francis of Springfield, Missouri, Nathan Dowden and Caleb Dowden and his wife, Liz, all of Manes, Missouri, Lisa Koenig and her husband, Tanner, of Manes, Missouri, Cassondra Dowden of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Sherry Privette of Statesville, North Carolina, and Karissa Butcher and her husband, Nathan, of Lebanon, Missouri, twenty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives, friends, and neighbors who will dearly miss him.
