Darrell Price

June 20, 1941 — June 13, 2023

Darrell Joe Price was born June 20, 1941, to Joe Warren and Leila Darlene (Rains) Price in Exeter, CA. He went home to his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of June 13, 2023, with his wife of 55 years by his side.

Between his dash, 1941-2023, he was raised in Exeter and, at the age of 11 years old, his family bought the ranch outside of Exeter. He worked alongside his dad on the ranch, raising peaches and grapes.

He attended Locust Grove School and was active in 4-H all the way up to entering high school. In high school, he was active in FFA, winning the calf scramble and achieving the FFA State Champion in California his senior year. Between his Junior and Senior years, he completed basic training and entered the Naval Reserves. Upon graduating in June of 1959, he went to active-duty status.

He proudly served 2½ years on the USS Betelgeuse and was honorably discharged, in 1961, as a Machinist Mate 3/C, and he returned home to the ranch in Exeter, CA.

In 1962, he went to work for Ingram's Equipment Pump Co. He worked as a service man on irrigation pumps and wells until he retired in June of 2004.

He met his wife Bernice Dodson Shahan, in 1966, at a Roller-Skating Rink in Visalia, CA, after stopping to help her up after she had fallen. They married November 16, 1967. To this union he gained 2 sons, twins, Anthony "Tony" Shahan, and James "Jim" Shahan. Then one son and one daughter were born, Darrell Warren Price and Michelle Darlene Price.

They made their home in Farmersville, CA, where he coached his son’s little league from 1971-1975. He also served on the Farmersville School Board from 1971-1979.

Darrell was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains of California with his family. He also enjoyed aviation and obtained his pilot’s license in 1978. It was not uncommon for him to rent a plane and take the kids flying.

He moved his family to Exeter, CA, in 1979. After moving, his son, Warren, joined the boy scouts and Darrell became an Assistant Boy Scout Master of Troop 309. His son, Warren, at the age of 16, earned his Eagle Scout which Darrell was very proud of. While with Troop 309, there were many adventures. Backpacking in the mountains of California, trips to Philmont, New Mexico, climbing Mt. Whitney twice, and a trip to the Boy Scout World Jamboree in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Darrell and Bernice moved to Missouri in March of 2005. He loved living in Missouri, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much happiness and joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Carlene Junice Price, a sister, Yvonne Dori, and a daughter-in-law, Jeanie Shahan.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of the home, sons, Anthony "Tony" Shahan of Hartville, MO, James "Jim" Shahan and wife, Chrissie, of Good Hope, MO, Darrell Warren Price and wife, Becky, of Bakersfield, CA, daughter, Michelle Price and fiancé, Bryan Fisher, of Mountain Grove, MO, grandchildren, Amber Martin and husband, Jeff, James "JP" Shahan and wife, Brittany, Heather Brown and husband, James, Joe Shahan and wife, Kennedy, Lacy Lee Jones and husband, Jordan, McKenna Bohannon and husband, Nathan, Cheyenne Lyles, Caleb Smith, Darrell Warren Price, Jr., and Raymond Price, great-grandchildren, Brent Williams, Riley Wright, Hayden Williams, Joslynn Brown, Hayden Brown, James Grant Shahan, Rhett Martin, Blaine Brown, Cora Lee Robertson, Bentley Jones, Stetson Shahan, Gunner Shahan, Amilynn Shahan, Elias Bohannon, Kamryn Jo Shahan, and Dodson Crew Dewey, his sisters, Joyce Pyle and husband Mike, and Janice See and husband, Bill, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who all love and miss him.
