Emblem

Harold “Dean” Moore, son of the late Hugh and Thelma (Cullum) Moore, was born April 28, 1936, at Hartville, Missouri, and departed this life peacefully at his home near Mansfield, Missouri, at 89 years of age.

When Dean was about five years old, his family moved from Hartville, Missouri, to California where he grew up. After school, Dean joined the United States Air Force when he was 18 years old. After basic training, he was united in marriage to Barbara Smith on July 3, 1954, in Exeter, California. Dean worked as the flight engineer on the C-130 aircraft and he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as Staff Sergeant after 20 years of service to his country.

After his military career, Dean worked as the head of refrigeration at Gooch Packing Company in Abilene, Texas, he was the production manager at Bar-S Foods Company in Clinton, Oklahoma, and he finished his career at Haagen-Dazs Ice Cream in Tulare, California, in refrigeration maintenance. He retired for the final time in 1995 and he and Barbara moved to Hartville, Missouri. They lived in Hartville for about 15 years and then moved to their current home near Mansfield, Missouri, where they have lived for the past 15 years.

One of Dean’s hobbies was raising horses when he was younger. He and Barbara also enjoyed bowling, fishing, and going to auctions together throughout the years. Dean always enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors and he rarely missed a chance to strike up a conversation with anyone.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Thelma Moore, and by his five brothers and sisters, Olive Moore, Harry Moore, Hershel Moore, Helen Pitts, and Sue Gilbert.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Barbara Moore, one daughter, Tracy Yeley and her husband, Fred, two grandchildren, Trinity Yeley and Leo Yeley, and many nephews, nieces, and friends who will miss him.
