Doris June Smith

Doris June (Sullivan) Smith was born June 21, 1932, to Thomas Hayden and Wilma Lucille (Wedge) Sullivan, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She departed from this life on September 14, 2025, following a brief illness at 93 years of age.

She grew up in Mountain Grove where she married Doyne Edwin Smith in 1948. Three children were born to this union, Charlotte, Shawn, and Jon. 

She and Doyne operated Doris’ on the square in Mountain Grove for more than 20 years.

Doris enjoyed visiting with her family, playing cards with her friends, and participating in First Baptist Church activities. She demonstrated her love for her community by volunteering her time delivering meals on wheels to the elderly and helping children to read over the course of many years. Finding personal fulfillment in gardening, she was an avid flower enthusiast and enjoyed talking about and sharing her plants with others.

She is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte Meier and Shawn McDonald, one son, Jon Smith, thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Bonnie Jones of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and one stepbrother, Paul Holland of Springfield, Missouri.

Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of a service or flowers, Doris wished for donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
