Florence Noreen Casady, passed away peacefully at Mercy-One Hospital on May 6, 2025, in Davenport, Iowa, at the age of 97. A celebration of life was held for family and friends. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded.
Florence was born on October 25, 1927, to Clifford and Viola (White) Tayloe. She was one of six children. She had one sister and four brothers. She retired after 31 years at Oscar Mayer. Florence was united in marriage to James “Jay” Ferrell on March 11, 1946. Along with Jay’s sister, Lucille, and her husband, Roy, they had a double wedding. Florence and Jay enjoyed 48 years of marriage until Jay passed on December 14, 1994, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. They enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, spending winters in Texas, listening to Jay play bluegrass music, and square dancing.
After Jay's passing, she was united in marriage to Sherman “Hoppy” Casady. They shared 20 years of marriage until his passing on August 4, 2017, in Raymore, Missouri. As a married couple, they traveled to Texas in the winters and shared the love of square dancing. She loved her Texas family and had many friends there, and kept in contact with all of them until her passing. She definitely could make friends with anyone wherever she went. Florence was an excellent cook, seamstress, and quilter. Due to her passion for sewing, she would make her own square dancing dresses to match her husbands’ shirts. She made the most beautiful keepsake quilts anyone had ever seen. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, she enjoyed playing cards with her special card lady friends. Most of all, Florence loved her family; they meant everything to her. She lived a rich and fulfilling life filled with love, friends, and family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will truly be missed by all who loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jack (Juna) Ferrell; granddaughters, Tracy (Greg) Mendoza, and Rhonda (Tim) Lang; grandsons, Jeremy (Jamie) Ferrell, Mike (Dora) Ferrell, Justin (Bri) Ryder, and Jake (Jess) Ryder; and special niece, Katie Eckstein. She had many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jay Ferrell and Hoppy Casady; and son, Mike Ferrell.
