George Atchison

George Robert Atchison, son of the late Tom and Nellie (McGowan) Atchison, was born January 25, 1953, in Huggins, Missouri. He passed away on October 22, 2025, at Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 72.

George graduated from Mountain Grove High School. He then began working for Steve Lyons Construction in Oklahoma where he helped build golf courses. He worked in four different states for fifteen years in that profession. Then, he moved back to Mountain Grove, Missouri, and he purchased and operated a filling station in Cabool, Missouri, for four years. He also cared for his aging mother until she passed.

George loved camping and had converted a school bus into an RV. He enjoyed travelling to many states while camping and site seeing. He also loved to cook, cooking for many family gatherings over the years.

Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Atchison and Leon Atchison; and one sister, Betty McGowan.

George is survived by one brother, Jack Atchison of Mountain Grove; two sisters, Virginia Parker and Noraleen Bressie, both of Mountain Grove; and two brothers-in-law, Buddy McGowan and Dick Bressie, both of Mountain Grove. George will be missed by his family and all that knew and loved him.
