Henry DeWitt Cooke, 87, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, at the family farm, surrounded by his family. Henry was born on February 5, 1938. Henry lived a life marked by resilience, faith, and strong conviction. At just nine years old, Henry survived a tragic childhood accident that resulted in the loss of his left leg. He refused to let adversity define him and went on to live a full, independent life. In later years, he courageously battled and overcame three different forms of cancer. Most recently, following a major stroke, Henry passed peacefully. A firm believer in Jesus Christ, Henry was a devoted member of The Salvation Army Church, where his faith guided his life. Henry worked for many years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before retiring in 1996, having a career marked by diligence and a quiet dedication to public service. In his free time, Henry enjoyed hunting and fishing, western films and books, and spending time outdoors. He had a fondness for Dodge vehicles and motorcycles and enjoyed thoughtful discussions about the mysteries of the world. A devoted sports fan, Henry was fiercely loyal to the University of Oklahoma Sooners and for ringing his cherished “OU bell” during games. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Eulala Cooke; his father, Fred O. Cooke Sr.; his mother, Maggie Erma Cooke; his brother, Fred O. Cooke Jr.; and his sister, Susie Quee Cooke.
He is survived by his daughters, Karlena Adkisson and husband Danny of Drury, Missouri, and Karen Kouassi and husband Theo of Little Elm, Texas; grandchildren, Sharmyla Schniedermeyer and husband Shaun, Brannan Adkisson and wife Brittney, David Adkisson, Jacob Philpott, Lucas Philpott and wife Adrianne; great-grandchildren, Allison, Savannah, Adele, Jensen, Daniel, Paxton, and Pepper; and many other loving family members.
A memorial service is being planned for March in Oklahoma. Service details will be announced at a later date.
Henry DeWitt Cooke will be remembered for his unwavering faith, perseverance, and deep love for his family.
