Hugh Wayne Clark

June 22, 1936 — November 17, 2023

Hugh Wayne “Whistler” Clark, son of the late Abrom Clark and Hazel (Holt) Clark, was born June 22, 1936, in Vanzant, Missouri, and departed this life on November 17, 2023, in Mountain Grove, Missouri. He was 87 years, 4 months, and 26 days of age.


Hugh graduated from Coffeyville High School in Kansas. He later met the love of his life and soulmate, Wanda “Gertie” Clinton. They were united in marriage on December 26, 1961. They spent the next 61 years together and were a wonderful example of a long lasting partnership and marriage.


Hugh had many jobs and trades throughout his life. He was a successful businessman and farmer. He found the most success in hanging drywall and farming.


Despite all of the hard work that Hugh did, he also made time for recreation. He enjoyed sports and was very active in every sport he could play. Once he slowed down and was not playing himself, he was a fan and he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Hugh greatly enjoyed the country life including hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Later in life, he introduced his love for all things outdoors to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Besides his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by one son, Steven Clark, one daughter, Sherri Mayberry, three grandsons, Jonathon Goodman, Dallas Massey, Dillon Massey, and one brother, Roland Clark.


Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gertie Clark of the home; one brother, Mike Clark of Coffeyville, Kansas; three daughters, Kathy Breland and her husband, Ken, of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida, Nikki Delcour of Springfield, Missouri, Cindy Rambo and her husband, Bobby, of Seymour, Missouri; and six grandchildren, Ashley Volner and her husband, Danny, Danielle Manniello and her husband, Scott, Seth Mayberry, Zachary Breland, Adrianne Hubbard and her husband, Colby, and Beau Massey. He will also be missed by ten great-grandchildren with number eleven on the way, four great-great grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
