Jacob "Jake" Northern

Nov 9, 1980 — Aug 17, 2026

Niangua

Jacob Glenn Northern was born November 9, 1980, in Smithville, Missouri, to Johnny and Connie Northern, and departed this life August 17, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, in the care of Integrity Hospice with his son, Jaden, by his side.

Jake grew up in Camden Point, Missouri, and attended North Platte School. After his junior year of high school, Jake moved with his family to Olive Branch, Mississippi, where he got his G.E.D. and attended culinary training. He later moved back to the North Kansas City area where he met Bethany Colwell. One son was born to their union of love, Jaden Northern, born July 12, 2004, the biggest joy of Jake’s life.

Jake moved to Grovespring, Missouri, in the late 2000’s to be closer to his family. Here, he was able to follow his dream of a lifetime and bought and ran his own restaurant, Jake’s Grovespring Cafe. Jake rededicated his life to the Lord and was privileged to be baptized with his son, Jaden, on July 20, 2014, at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Grovespring, Missouri.

In his younger years, Jake loved bowling, hunting, camping, and fishing. As he got older, he enjoyed reading and cooking, and he especially loved barbecuing with his dad. He loved to tease his nieces and nephews and was always quick-witted and had a joke for everything.

Jake is survived by his parents, Johnny and Connie Northern of Niangua, Missouri, his son, Jaden Northern of Niangua, Missouri, the mother of his child, Bethany Colwell of Rolla, Missouri, his twin sister, Sarah Boisvert and husband, Ron, of Niangua, Missouri, his half sister, Peggy Northern of Spencer, Indiana, five nieces and nephews, Mercedes, Brandon, Heather, Lydia, and Jackson, three great-nieces, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends who will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jake's son, Jaden Northern, and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hartville, MO 65667.
