Jacqueline Matus

Jacqueline Anna Marie Matus, born on August 29, 1966, in Belize City, Belize, Central America, departed this life on July 2, 2026, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 3 days (but if you had asked her, she would say she was 29, again).

Jackie lived in Belize until the age of 8, then in 1974, Jackie moved to America. She was then awarded her American citizenship on August 22, 1980, at the age of 13, and remained a proud American citizen the rest of her life.

Jackie attended school in Washington and in Missouri; she graduated from Seymour High School in Missouri in 1984. She went on to attend cosmetology school. She enjoyed doing manicures, pedicures, and even cutting hair for friends and family when needed. She spent most of her adult life helping with farm work, being a caretaker for many, cleaning houses, and eventually working for Mercy Hospital.

Jackie loved the simple things. Taking walks, listening to praise and worship songs, reading the Bible, and spending time with her family were some of her favorite things to do. Heart rocks were one of Jackie's favorite things to find; she said they were reminders of God’s love for her. She enjoyed handing them out to others almost as much as she enjoyed finding them. Jackie was always one to just “jump in” and get things done. She was hard-pressed to sit still, and if she was found doing so, it was probably because she was sitting with or holding one of her grandkids.

Jackie was preceded in death by her grandmother, Francisca Gonzalez, and her father, Lacell Lopez.

She is survived by her parents, Arlene and Jerry McCormack, two sons, Daniel Colston and his wife, Katie, Justin Colston and his wife, Nichole, five sisters, Kathleen Copeland and her husband, Micheal, Alicia Edwards and her husband, Scott, Glenda Owens and her husband, Curtis, Marianella Lopez, Claudia Johnson, one brother, David Lopez, aunt, Laura Martin and her husband, Ross, four granddaughters, Madison, McKynzie, Amelia, and Scarlett, and one grandson, Cooper expected soon. Jackie had a whole host of aunts, uncles, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who are all too numerous to count but who loved her greatly.

Jackie will be missed immensely by her family and friends alike. To quote her mother, “our circle has been broken”. We will never be the same.
