Lonnie “Jerrel” Wheat was born in Vanzant, Missouri, on June 10, 1942, to Roy H. and Trilba (Smith) Wheat. He departed this life on March 11, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Jerrel attended school at Willow Springs No. 2 School. When he was young his parents traveled to work in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Colorado, which gave him a love for the west. He was an only child so he enjoyed time spent with his cousins in his childhood.
On February 1, 1960, he was married at the home of Rev. Zim Sims to Lula Jean Collins. They shared 61 years together. They had three children, Glenda, Lora, and Tyler. They lived on the family farm in Vanzant for 49 years.
Jerrel was a logger working in the woods for many years alongside his dad. His hobbies included softball, hunting, fishing, and reloading shells. He enjoyed traveling. He was a member of the Willow Springs No. 2 Freewill Baptist Church.
Jerrel was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Lou, his daughters, Glenda Mings (Rick) and Lora Hutsell (Donald), his son, Tyler Wheat, all of Vanzant, Missouri, six grandchildren, Amber Luna (Jason) of Dora, Missouri, Jessica Aldridge of Las Vegas, Nevada, Chris Goodman (Eileen) of Rock Bridge, Missouri, BJ Hutsell, Cole Hutsell, and Faith Mings, all of Vanzant, Missouri, two great-granddaughters, Makenzie and Maddie Goodman.
Jerrel will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
