Jimmie "James" Ellis

May 20, 1925 — June 29, 2025

Mountain Grove

Jimmie Jasper Ellis, son of the late Earl and Bess (Hutsell) Ellis, was born on May 20, 1925, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, and passed on June 29, 2025. He was 100 years old.

After graduating from Mountain Grove High School, Jimmie enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served at the end of World War II. While he was stationed in San Diego, California, he met and married his wife of sixty years, Dixie Sullivan in 1948. They then settled in Mountain Grove, back to the family farm for a short time. The family then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to start a very successful career in the trucking business. He served the trucking industry as a trucking broker, which meant he was the man in charge of deciding where the trucks went and what loads they picked up. In 1957, he moved the family to southern California, where his trucking career lasted until the mid-1970s, when they moved back to the family farm in Mountain Grove and began a beef cattle operation.

After the death of his wife in 2013, he made the decision to move to town, where he remained for the rest of his life.

Besides his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dixie of over sixty years; his two brothers, Ross Ellis, and his wife Marilyn, Roy Ellis, and his wife Jean; and one grandson-in-law, Lance Johnson.

Jimmie is survived by his two sons, Jay Ellis, and Jimmie Ellis, and his wife Karen; one daughter, Barbara Morgan; six grandchildren; David Ellis, Jennifer Ellis, Evan Morgan, and his wife Nao, Dana Ellis, Kristi Johnson, and Amber Williams; eight great grandchildren, Daniel Haase, Blake Williams, Mikayla Williams, Maila Morgan, Liana Morgan, Liam Neugebauer, Ava Adamson, and Bryce Johnson; one great great grandchild, Kaian Williams, and many other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.

In honor of Jimmie, you may send flowers or make a memorial contribution to Friendship Cemetery c/o Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
