Kenneth Luke Atchison, son of the late Orvie and Pearl Alexander Atchison, was born on April 8, 1927, in Exeter, California, and passed away on August 24, 2026, in Rogersville, Missouri, at the age of 99 years, 4 months, and 16 days. He was raised in the Hickory Flat community.
Kenneth led a remarkably diverse professional life, working for the railroad in Indianapolis, Indiana; the Willamette Plywood Company in Eugene, Oregon; a factory in Ava, Missouri; and spending 25 years in the Quad Cities of Iowa before retiring from Caterpillar.
His retirement was anything but quiet. After returning to Seymour, Missouri, he drove two Ford pickups over 650,000 miles and walked 5-10 miles daily. He truly embraced his passion for travel with Greyhound 60-day Amera passes, covering over 2 million miles across North America over the next 20 years. His adventurous spirit ignited in his youth after walking from Hickory Flat to Norwood, Missouri, to see Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys-an experience that profoundly changed his life. From that day forward, Kenneth was a dedicated follower of Bluegrass festivals across the United States. His greatest joys were Bluegrass music and exploring the open road. He visited all contiguous states many times, explored every Canadian province, and traveled to Alaska twice, Kenneth never met a stranger, and his travel stories inspired everyone he met.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Paul, Silas, Arthur, and Noah Atchison; and his sisters, Rachel Babcock, Dorothy Atchison, Marie Douglas, Evelyn Atchison, and Ruby Atchison. He is survived by his brother, Dewey and wife, Shirley Atchison of Fremont Hills, Missouri, and one brother-in-law, Ernest Douglas of Clearwater, Florida; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Having dedicated his life to the Lord, Kenneth’s final wish was that others would come to know his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed and remembered forever by all who knew and loved him.
