Larry Lee Matney

April 5, 1964 — May 31, 2024

Seymour

Larry Lee Matney, son of Earnest and Florence (Coville) Matney, was born April 5, 1964, in Springfield, Missouri, and departed this life Friday, May 31, 2024, at the age of 60 years, 1 month, 26 days.

Larry Lee was able to appreciate life in its purest form. Whether it was his delight over a hot cup of black coffee, his excitement over a familiar face, or his laughter at a joke. He was constantly reminding us to appreciate the everyday moments we often overlook. His interactions and communications displayed an innocence and honesty that was both refreshing and entertaining. He shared a meaningful bond with his big brother Louis “Bud”, who was his greatest supporter and advocate. Their relationship was a testament to the power of unconditional love and the strength of family ties.

Larry lived at Applewood Group Home in Lebanon Missouri; where he stole the hearts of everyone he met. As a family, we would like to thank the numerous individuals throughout the years who have assisted in his care. Larry had a special place in his heart for each of you and your compassion does not go unnoticed. When asked “How many girlfriends’ do you have in Lebanon?” A big grin and confirming head nod would accompany his answer, while proudly displaying FIVE! Among his treasured "girls" were Patricia, Felicia, Cheryl, Lisa, and Amanda; they offered their hearts, kindness, and support, as well as valued friendships. Larry was a very outgoing man who knew no stranger. His happy place was outdoors. His favorite activities were fishing with Zach and endless amounts of bird watching. If he found himself stuck inside, you can bet he would pass the time with an old Western or M.A.S.H. He is best described as a country boy who turned the group home into a farm. His animals allowed him to keep a piece of his own independence. He had 22 chickens, 2 fish and the house dog Holly; who each received his affection and attention daily.

Larry is survived by his siblings and their spouses; June (Duane) Thulin, William (Deana) Matney, Sharon Kay Matney, Pete (Sherry) Matney, Albert (Martha) Matney, Harry (Robin) Matney, and sister-in-law Kathy Matney. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; siblings and their spouses, Rose Matney, Mae (Charlie) Keilbarth, Louis “Bud” (Pearl) Matney, Denzl (Marie) Matney, Martha Griffith and Terry Matney; and brother-in-law, Bobby Braden.
