Larry Alan Schwartz, age 87, was welcomed into Heaven on April 9, 2026. Born on October 20, 1938, in Owosso, Michigan, Larry lived a full and faithful life marked by devotion to his family, his country, and his Savior.
Larry graduated from Owosso High School in 1956, before proudly serving in the United States Army as a radio operator during the Panama conflict. Following his military service, he attended DeVry Institute, where he studied electronics—an interest that would shape much of his professional life.
Larry’s career reflected both his technical skill and his passion for communication. He worked as an electrical engineer at Channel 12, contributed his talents to Family Life Radio and MSU Channel 23, and later shared his knowledge by teaching electronics at the Ingham Intermediate School District. He also worked at Latronics repairing electrical components. Even in “retirement,” Larry remained active, working at Kerr Hardware in Mason, Michigan.
A man of many interests, Larry found joy in a wide variety of hobbies. He was a licensed pilot with a deep love for airplanes, an avid weather watcher, and a lifelong enthusiast of trains. He was a HAM radio operator and enjoyed water skiing, hunting, fishing, and scuba diving. Larry also had a special affection for his many beloved dogs over the years.
Larry was a devoted servant of his faith. He served as a deacon at his church and faithfully taught Sunday School. His favorite book of the Bible was Isaiah. It was during his time airing a Billy Graham program at Channel 12 that Larry came to know Jesus Christ as his Savior—a decision that shaped the rest of his life.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Arvilla Schwartz; his brother, Wayne (Margaret) Schwartz; and his sister, Velma (Gaylord) Rapp.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen Schwartz; his sons, Brian (Becky) Schwartz and Steve (Krista) Schwartz; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Larry was a loving husband, an amazing father, and a man who led by example. He loved his family deeply, served his country with honor, and lived his faith wholeheartedly. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in the First Baptist Church of Mountain Grove. The family has asked that you RSVP at (517) 230-7066 if you wish to attend.
