Steve Thompson

August 26, 1951 — February 16, 2025

Mountain Grove

Steven Lane Thompson, age 73, of Norwood, Missouri, unexpectedly passed away on February 16, 2025, after a brief illness. Steve was a kind and dependable friend to many in the community and was a beloved figure whose impact was deeply felt by all who knew him.

He was born August 26, 1951, in North Platte, Nebraska, to John and Laurine Thompson. Steve dedicated his life to the Lord at the age of 10 at Maranatha Bible Camp. He married Vicki Lynn (Smith) Thompson in North Platte on May 2, 1970, and were blessed with two children, Josselyn and John, who will all miss him dearly.

Steve and Vicki moved to Denver, Colorado, shortly after marrying. As their family grew, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where they lived for over 35 years. After retiring, they moved to their home in Norwood.

Steve had a 30 plus year career with the Woodward Governor company in Fort Collins, Colorado, as a machinist, field service tech, and pricing analyst.

Steve was a leader in the community, spearheading the creation of the Pregnancy Resource Center of Mountain Grove, serving as the Board of Directors President for 16 years offering vital support to those in need. His compassion and drive to make a positive difference also extended to his work as an active Deacon at First Baptist Church, Board Member of Ridgecrest Apartments, and various other boards and committees. Steve also provided transportation services to the Amish community where he developed many close friends. Wherever he chose to serve, he did so with faith, dedication, and love.

Steve pursued many hobbies and interests, such as wood working, auto restoration, and antiquing. He could often be found at local auctions, where he had a special appreciation for the charm of a random find – always intrigued by the stories behind unexpected treasures.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Laurine, an infant brother, Carl, and his father-in-law, Drexel Smith.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Vicki, his children, Josselyn (John) Smith of Princeton, Iowa, John (Staci) Thompson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, grandchildren, Bryan (Tara) Smith of Queens, New York, Logan Smith of Princeton, Iowa, Evan (Sabrena) Thompson of Woodrow, Colorado, Corbin Thompson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Larry (Linda) Thompson of Marion, Iowa, and Bob (Sally) Thompson of North Platte, Nebraska, one sister, Sandy Musser of St. Petersburg, Florida, and his mother-in-law, Jean Smith of Mountain Grove, Missouri.
