Vernita Jane Davis

Nov 5, 1937 — Aug 18, 2026

Centennial, Colorado

Vernita Jane “Janie” (Neher) Davis, daughter of Charles and Hazel V. (Hoag) Neher, was born November 5, 1937,in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She went to heaven on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Centennial, Colorado, at the age of 88.

Janie grew up in the Mountain Grove area and graduated from Mountain Grove High School, class of 1955. She enjoyed many days and adventures with her cat, “Sweetie Pie”, on her shoulder, all over the family farm, northeast of Mountain Grove. The family was active in the Greenwood Church of the Brethren.

Jane attended McPherson College, and then went on to seminary in Elgin, Illinois, where she met her husband, Glen. Later, they moved to Enders, Nebraska, with their young son, Glen Richard II, and served the Enders Church of the Brethren Community. Their family grew with the addition of Sara Lynne, Deborah Elaine, Stephen Paul, and Charles Foster. In 1986, Jane then moved to Cushing, Oklahoma, and was the Chaplain for the Valley Hope Treatment Facility. After her children were out of the home, Jane took a pastoral position at the Warrensburg Church of the Brethren, in Missouri. Jane’s final move was to Colorado to be closer to family, and there pastored the Windsor Church of the Brethren, until her retirement.

Jane enjoyed spending time with her family and telling stories of years past. She was a pioneer in her field- one of the first ordained women ministers in the Church of the Brethren!

Jane enjoyed the Rocky Mountains in all their splendor, as well as the Rolling Plains. She will live on in the hearts and lives of her family, and everyone she touched.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Glen R. Davis; son, Charles F. Davis; father, Charles F. Neher; mother, Hazel V. (Hoag) Neher; and sister, Iris E. Neher.

Jane is survived by her sons, Glen R. Davis II and wife, Keli, of Aurora, Colorado, and Stephen P. Davis and wife, Amanda, of Norton, Kansas; daughters, Sara L (Davis) Soria-Hernandez and husband, Paul, of Centennial, Colorado, and Deborah E. (Davis) Fletcher and husband, Ray, of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Francisco (Frankie), Victor, Mikayla, Kindra, James, Nicholas, Maxwell, Glen III, and Brooke; seven great-grandchildren, Harper, Gypsy, Westly, Owen, Jonas, Christina, Woodrow, (and a new baby boy due anyday!); brothers, Jimmy E.
